Day 30 - Sarria to Portomarin

The end result of walking the Camino is to collect your Compostela in Santiago. The certificate to prove you walked 100km (or cycled 200km).  Previously that 100km was the last 100km of each route, which for the Camino Frances is from Sarria as that is at about 113km.

The result of these rules meant that the path from Sarria to Santiago was becoming incredibly busy. To overcome this they have new rules that you must was 75km consecutively at any point on the route and the last 25km into Santiago.

I think it is fair to say the new rules have yet to have an impact! The path today was just packed with people including lots of groups of school kids.

We set off, first up those steps for breakfast, and then onwards up the hill of the main street to leave Sarria.

The path was pretty, winding through fields and villages. We saw our first storks since we crossed the last range of hills.

We also came face to face with another cow herd being moved along the path.

After a quick stop fora drink, we headed on till we reached the 100km to go marker! Quite an achievement for all of us!!!

Once again the small hamlets were very agricultural and almost all farms and houses had crop stores up off the ground, apparently to stop rats getting to their produce.

Then it was our second piper of the trip!

After a lovely day of walking we reached Portomarin, but first we had to cross a bridge and walk up a steep stone staircase!!

Definitely worth the effort! Then we discovered our hotel was right on the river with amazing views!

Short walk to dinner and it was time for bed.

Today's route...
