Day 29 - Triacastela to Sarria
Firstly thanks to all of you who have stuck with us this far!!! And an special thank you to those who have commented. As I said before it is lovely to know you are out there and still enjoying the updates! Not long to go now! We arrive in Santiago on Saturday, so definitely on the home straight.
Today we ate breakfast in Triacastela before setting off down the main street to a decision point!
The options were longer route alongside a busy road, to pass a monastery, or shorter route through beautiful countryside, no monastery! All in all we agreed we had probably seen enough monasteries! What wasn't clear was that the scenic route was also quite hilly!
The weather was the coolest it has been so far and there was also mizzle in the air so we all wore an extra layer and at one point i even put my rain poncho on, but it never really rained and eventually we had a lovely sunny day.
Although the route we chose said main route on the signs the book has the other route so today was a magical mystery tour of villages and distances!
As we left Sarria we passed the old smithy which had also been an inn back in the day. Afterall it makes sense to get a beer whilst your horse gets new shoes, before embarking on the hill!!
The first place we reached was A Balsa....
Just outside A Balsa was an old chapel converted into an art gallery. The artist is English but due to Brexit wasn't there so had an Australian couple looking after it for him.
We walked in through hills and hamlets until we reached Furela where we stopped for a drink and cake.
As we reached the outskirts of Sarria, we found a restaurant playing pipe music and selling pulpo, a Galician speciality of octopus. We stopped for a lovely chilled lunch before the last 2km into Sarria.
We had booked a lovely hotel in Sarria which was a treat. After a shower and snooze we went out for dinner. Sadly it was up about 100 steps, which we then had to come back down and we know we need to climb again first thing!!
Today's route... (although this is not the route we did!)
Lovely photos, what will you do with yourselves when you get home?? After walking all those daily miles. Dale will have to up his game haha!! G xx
