Day 8 - Logrono to Najera
Well that's us into week 2!!
Last night was great, possibly a little too much fun! Lots of bars, lots of pinchos and some fab wine, so the alarm call felt very early ahead of a long day!
The route today was 31km with only 2 stops, one at 13km and one at 20km, so we knew it was going to be a challenge.
We left the apartment and started walking through Logrono before stopping at a cafe for breakfast.
We walked 3km before we left the city buildings and at that point we entered a park. There were lots of retirees getting their daily constitutional! We also saw quite a few red squirrels!!
The park lasted until we were almost 8km along. Which meant the morning went fast. It was cool to start with as there was cloud cover, but the sun soon started to burn through and the day warmed up.
We reached Navarette about 11am and after admiring the beautiful church and collecting a stamp we had an early lunch.
Then it was 7km to Ventosa, for a drink and on to the last 13km to Najera. It was hot and dusty, through vineyards mainly, with very few pilgrims. As your feet get hot, so the blisters start to get worse.
We just took it slow and steady and stopped when we needed to, took shoes off whenever we got the chance and suddenly we were into Najera.
We are in another great apartment, right on the route and with a precious washing machine!! Dinner was so great and Fi and I did an alcohol free day to rest our livers!!
We met a lovely Welsh girl on day 1, Sara from Camarthen, that we keep bumping into and we saw her again tonight. She entertained us with tales of the alburgues, the one here is 6€ for the night. It is one big room and as they now know each other they know the snorers and the farters and so one old guy was on his own with no one in any of the beds near him!! We are appreciating the apartment even more now!!
Today's route..
