Day 13 - Burgos to Hornillos del Camino

Burgos was quite the party city!! They music in the street stopped not long before 4am, and as we left the apartment we passed 4 young lads fast asleep on benches in the street. We also passed the incredible cathedral. How can we have never even heard of a city that has a such an amazing building!

We also we on storks spotting duty! I think the record was three nests on one building!!

On the outskirts of Burgos we found a cafe open, clearly the festivities the night before had slowed everyone down!! Had a lovely breakfast and we were on our way.

The route was a bit weird, we never even saw the first town on the map at 6.2km, so we continued on and wound under motorway bridges until we reached Tardajos. We stopped for a snack and a drink and then a quick trip to the pharmacy for more blister supplies.

The next village, Rabe de las Calzadas, was only 2 km away but as it was the last one before a long walk to Hornillos del Camino, we stopped again for a quick drink and an ice cream!

As we left Rabe, we were pleased to see we were now under 500km to go.

On the very outskirts of Rabe was a pretty little chapel that we decided to look into and perhaps get a stamp for our credentials.

Inside there was a lovely lady who we think was perhaps a nun who gave us stamps and then asked each of us individually our names and blessed us on our Camino and gave us all a small necklace to wear! It was very moving.

It was about 10km still to go, it was hot but there was a breeze for a lot of it so that really helped and before we knew it we were in Hornillos del Camino.

We checked into our accommodation, had showers and headed out to the only bar we had been told was open for food at about 17.45, after a thunder storm had passed through.  The bar was not open and was not serving food. There was a tiny shop in the town that we knew shut at 6pm so with about 4 mins to spare, we bought bread, cheese, ham, olives, an apple, beer and wine, and headed back to the Albergue for dinner.

The rain.came down and then the hail, but at least we were inside and comfortable.

Today's route...
