Day 10 - Sto. Domingo de la Calazada to Belorado
What a lovely day! 23km according to the book, with villages all the way along, which really broke the journey up and made everything feel manageable. It was still very hot, but not many hills, so that helped too.
We left the Parador at about 7.30 am, and as we were on the West side of town, we didn't find anywhere for breakfast before we had left Santo Domingo de la Calazada behind, so we walked the first 6km to Granon before stopping for food. As we walked into Granon we met a South African couple who we have seen along the route, walking towards us. We stopped to talk to them and they were heading for the bus and then home. They were gutted to be leaving and already planning to return next year to continue from this point!
Lovely little bar and great food in Granon and another amazing church for a small village. Not least the flower petal display on the floor and the most beautiful stained glass window.
After leaving Granon, we also left the region of Rioja and entered Castilla y Leon region.
The next village was Redecilla del Camino, we didn't stop but just passed through.
By Viloria del Camino, we were ready for a drink stop as the temperature climbed. The first building behind the village sign is a traditional donation Alburgue, ie all donations. We had drinks and boiled eggs as a snack for a donation and I then popped upstairs to the loo. It has 12 beds, in total, and the hospitalera said she had 5 already booked for tonight.

ReplyDeleteGreat day today, good decision to upgrade the house wine to a bottle of Rioja at dinner.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had an easier day. Sorry to have left Rioja?? I am sure you will find other suitable wine. ❤️❤️
